Oakwood: Raleigh’s Oldest Historic Neighborhood
The Historic Oakwood District is one of Raleigh’s well-known historic areas. Its streets are lined with Queen Anne Victorians, Italianate designs, cozy bungalows and a variety of different architectural styles. Oakwood’s homes date back to the late 1800s and early 1900s, each featuring intricate woodwork, decorative porches, and timeless charm. While these homes are known for their pristine preservation, the backyards of these properties have beautiful gardens. These gardens can be toured by public at the annual Garden Tour & Tea.
Another highlight of Oakwood is the annual Candlelight Tour, where visitors can step inside these homes, learn their stories, and see how history and modern living blend together.
